1.
Of the Father's love begotten, Ere the worlds began to be, He is Alpha and Omega, He the source, the ending he, Of the things that are, that have been, And that future years shall see, Evermore and evermore!
2.
Psalm 8 03:30
1 Oh God, our sovereign, how lofty your name! You've set your glory above the canopy sky and on the lips of infants. Mere children's cries hush the proud deceiver: majesty in humble guise. 2 Ponder your heavens, the awesome work of your hands; full moon and starlight, each you set in their place. What are we that you are mindful, frailest human flesh? Yet, just beneath the angels, crowned with blessedness. 3 You made us stewards Of your very own Of earth and of sky And all the fragile life between To darkened depths of oceans All creation you claim You are lord, our lord Lovely is your name. How lovely is your name over all the earth.
3.
1 The King of love my shepherd is, whose goodness faileth never. I nothing lack if I am his, and he is mine forever. 2 Where streams of living water flow, my ransomed soul he leadeth; and where the verdant pastures grow, with food celestial feedeth. 3 Perverse and foolish, oft I strayed, but yet in love he sought me; and on his shoulder gently laid, and home, rejoicing, brought me. 4 In death's dark vale I fear no ill, with thee, dear Lord, beside me; thy rod and staff my comfort still, thy cross before to guide me. 5 Thou spreadst a table in my sight; thy unction grace bestoweth; and oh, what transport of delight from thy pure chalice floweth! 6 And so through all the length of days, thy goodness faileth never; Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise within thy house forever.
4.
1 Joyful, joyful, we adore thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flowers before thee, Opening to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive our fear and doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day! 2 All thy works with joy surround thee, Earth and heaven reflect thy rays, Stars and angels sing around thee, Center of unbroken praise: Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flowery meadow, flashing sea, Chanting bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in thee. 3 Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Well-spring of the joy of living, Ocean-depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our brother, All who live in love are thine: Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine.
5.
V1: Though the fig tree does not blossom And no fruit is on the vine Refrain: I will praise the Lord, my savior God, my strength, is my salvation He will make my feet like the feet of a deer Treading upon the heights V2: Though the olive crop has failed And the fields produce no food Refrain V3: Though the flock has all been scattered And no herd is in the stall Refrain x2
6.
1 Jesus shall reign where'er the sun doth his successive journeys run, his kingdom stretch from shore to shore, till moons shall wax and wane no more. 2 To him shall endless prayer be made, and praises throng to crown his head. His name like sweet perfume shall rise with every morning sacrifice. 3 People and realms of every tongue dwell on his love with sweetest song, and infant voices shall proclaim their early blessings on his name. 4 Blessings abound where'er he reigns: the prisoners leap to lose their chains, the weary find eternal rest, and all who suffer want are blest. 5 Let every creature rise and bring peculiar honors to our King, angels descend with songs again, and earth repeat the loud amen.
7.
V1: Your rain falls on the wicked ones And those seek your way Your kindness waters all of us Who grow beneath your grace V2: You lend without a hope of gain And give to all who ask Your love is not a scarcity Your mercy holds us fast Refrain: You reached across the great divide In drawing near to us Teach us to cross our battle lines And face our foes with love V3: To love the ones who loved us first Is fine and commonplace But love that asks for nothing back Reflects the Father’s face V4: Then let us to practice charity And lay our judgement down Till enemies are understood And empathy is found Refrain V5: You found us when we lost our way Recalled when we forgot When we were foes you sent your Son To be all that we’re not
8.
1 Ah, holy Jesus, how hast thou offended, that we to judge thee have in hate pretended? By foes derided, by thine own rejected, O most afflicted! 2 Who was the guilty? Who brought this upon thee? Alas, my treason, Jesus, hath undone thee! 'Twas I, Lord Jesus, I it was denied thee; I crucified thee. 3 For me, kind Jesus, was thy incarnation, thy mortal sorrow, and thy life's oblation; thy death of anguish and thy bitter passion, for my salvation. 4 Therefore, kind Jesus, since I cannot pay thee, I do adore thee, and will ever pray thee, think on thy pity and thy love unswerving, not my deserving.
9.
Kenosis Hymn 02:33
He, who shared the form of God, did not abuse his privilege, but poured himself for those he loved and suffered like a slave. The cosmic Christ came drawing near to humbly walk in human flesh. He shared our life and faced our death, even to the cross. Therefore, God exalted him and raised him up again, that, at the name of Jesus, every knee will stop to bend. In heaven, on earth, and in the depths of hell, every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
10.
1 We walk by faith, and not by sight, no gracious words we hear from him who spoke as none e’er spoke, but we believe him near. 2 We may not touch his hands and side, nor follow where he trod; but in his promise we rejoice and cry, “My Lord and God!” 3 Help then, O Lord, our unbelief; and may our faith abound to call on you when you are near, and seek where you are found: 4 that, when our life of faith is done, in realms of clearer light we may behold you as you are with full and endless sight.
11.
1 Joy to the world! the Lord is come: let earth receive her King; let every heart prepare him room, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven and nature sing, and heaven, and heaven and nature sing. 2 Joy to the world! the Savior reigns; let all their songs employ, while fields and floods, rocks, hills, and plains, repeat the sounding joy, repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat the sounding joy. 3 No more let sins and sorrows grow, nor thorns infest the ground; he comes to make his blessings flow far as the curse is found, far as the curse is found, far as, far as the curse is found. 4 He rules the world with truth and grace, and makes the nations prove the glories of his righteousness and wonders of his love, and wonders of his love, and wonders, wonders of his love.

about

In the fullness of time God comes among us in a gentle and lowly way, subtly subverting our violent world and inviting us to walk in the paths of peace. These are hymns, love songs, to the shepherd king Jesus. This is an album I've been wanting to make for over ten years, and I'm grateful to share it now. May these hymns be companions for you, in times of joyful thanksgiving for life's abundance and in times when grief and ache find you unable to pray. The Good Shepherd walks beside us through all our times. Soli Deo gloria.
